Welcome Message from the Dean

I am excited to join Oakland University as Dean of University Libraries and to welcome you to Kresge Library and Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine Library!

The mission of Oakland University Libraries is to “expertly integrate teaching, information, and technology to create dynamic, welcoming learning environments. We are committed to fostering academic excellence and promoting information literacy within the campus community and beyond.” The faculty and staff of University Libraries work hard every day to move us toward achievement of our mission.

For the past several months, we have been focusing on continuing to offer library services and functions in keeping with COVID-19 restrictions and while respecting the health and safety of our library staff and faculty and of our users. In August 2020, in addition to offering online resources and services, we reopened our doors to the OU community. We will provide physical materials, technology, study space and limited in-person support as long as we can do so safely. We will be open with reduced space capacity in accordance with state of Michigan Executive Orders and Directives, and with health and safety at top of mind. We have put reminders and precautions in place to assist with social distancing and to promote face coverings and good hygiene to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. More information regarding our COVID-19 precautions and practices can be found here.

Our motto is “Knowledge Unbound” and it is especially relevant today. The University Libraries’ support for teaching, learning and research is not bound by place or space. In response to the unique COVID-19 situation, we have assured robust virtual research support and information literacy instruction to serve the needs of students and faculty on- and off-campus. As always, we offer thousands of online resources, including ebooks, journal articles and streaming videos, for our users.

I look forward to seeing you in the University Libraries!
